Website guide

A website we can
keep building.

This guide keeps track of what we have learned while shaping our website. We want anyone who joins us to be able to understand it, care for it and keep building with us. You do not need a technical background: underlined terms lead to our dictionary.

What we have built, and what keeps it running

This is the Alpha version of our website. It brings together what we have learned while building this platform and the features we have put in place. It gives us a starting point for what we will learn and create next.

A space that feels like roscaille

We want arriving at roscaille to feel like an invitation: to understand our purpose, discover projects, read a different perspective or share what we know. Each page has room of its own, while every page speaks with the same voice.

Photography, beadwork and warm colours support that intention. We write roscaille foundation in lowercase; FOUNDATION stays uppercase only within the wordmark. Keeping these choices consistent helps us build a recognisable identity.

Three parts working together

HTML organises text, images and links. CSS shapes how they look, including type, colours and their arrangement on a screen. JavaScript makes the page respond when we open a menu, send an application or move a block in the editor. If these names are new to you, you can open their definitions right here.

A place for what people share to stay

The server receives visits and forms. Node.js runs the application there; SQLite stores publications, accounts and applications. Uploaded images live in separate files. This separation lets us improve the code without erasing the stories, photographs or people who have joined us.

What we can already do

The blog and initiatives share a block editor. Initiatives can also show categories, status, dates and ways to take part. The website has its own Spanish, English and Portuguese copy. Google supports additional translations and the map; Zulip gives our community a place to talk and organise our teams.

For whoever continues this work

The package includes source files, assets and a distribution ready to run. A new contributor can understand the pages and data, check permissions and test changes before publishing. Reference HTML files help explain the structure, but accounts, publishing and forms need the complete application to work.
