What we have learned along the way
Many small reviews have shaped this website. We keep the main decisions here so that people joining later can understand where we began and continue the work.
Finding our voice first
We gave purpose, identity, initiatives, the blog and participation their own space. Beadwork and an invitation to build with others shaped the visual identity. We reviewed photographs, proportions and transitions to make the website feel clearer and more welcoming.
Bring projects closer to people
We brought the four areas of work into Initiatives to connect them with actual projects, then added categories, status and schedules. The blog and initiatives gained independent covers and an editor for arranging content in blocks.
Make room to contribute with care
The three website languages came next, alongside a distinction between original publications and translations. Individual accounts replaced shared passwords. Each person can now contribute with defined permissions.
Our own foundation for what comes next
We prepared the application for Spaceship with Node.js, SQLite and our own domain. Separating code from data made it possible to keep content during updates. Alpha 1.0.0 brought that experience together in a complete package with assets and instructions.
This next step: Alpha 1.1.0
Applications now has a private page where we can read responses and follow up. The guide grows too, with a warmer voice and a dictionary to make technical terms easier to approach. These improvements build on the same visual and functional baseline without replacing saved stories or images.
A more comfortable read: Alpha 1.2.0
We used the previous 125% view as a reference for larger everyday type, without controlling the reader’s browser zoom. The wordmark keeps its two lines together and columns reflow as the screen narrows. The FAQ now has a more personal voice, and Who we are includes the story of Andres, Oliver and the two bracelets that are part of this journey. These changes are available in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
An invitation to explore: Alpha 1.3.0
The menu has a more visible button and a space of its own, with a seed bead detail. On narrower screens, the establishment note moves beneath the wordmark to give the footer links room. We reviewed the story and FAQ together so they reflect our voice: Andres’s experience, the meaning of Oliver and our wish to support one another with time, effort and knowledge. Each chapter has a clearer frame, while the areas of work and volunteering options gain a warm highlight on hover.
Alpha 1.4.0 · A flowing story and a welcoming menu
We revisited our story to make room for what matters. The years now sit quietly alongside each introduction, and short passages continue from one frame to the next, linked by a fine thread. Beads mark the different moments without turning each one into a large block of colour.
We also widened the menu button shown when the header links no longer fit. The language selector stays to its left. On arrival, the button gently extends before revealing an invitation to get to know our community; it can be opened straight away. Anyone who prefers reduced motion sees the complete button immediately.
Alpha 1.5.0 · Beadwork that welcomes us in
The menu can tell a little of our story, too. It now uses the same beadwork pattern found throughout the site: its pieces come together as the page opens, leaving room for a simple invitation, “Discover our community”. Opening the menu hides that line and reveals the introduction and links.
We make better use of the header to keep the full navigation visible whenever it fits. On smaller screens, the language selector stays next to a generous button. The animation respects reduced-motion preferences and does not move the rest of the page. We also removed the reference to Pulso from the personal introduction, keeping the rest of the approved story.
Alpha 1.5.1 · Letting the beadwork show
We removed the white panel from the menu button so the beadwork remains visible. A soft, light halo around each letter keeps the invitation readable. The approved pattern, entrance animation and menu behavior stay the same.
Alpha 1.5.2 · Back to writing, room to read
We fixed access to the blog and initiative editors, including when the hosting server delivers files directly. If a request takes too long, we can try again instead of facing a loading message indefinitely. On mobile, the home heading now keeps its words whole. The menu beadwork remains visible, with a light shadow around each letter.
Alpha 1.5.3 · A menu that fits mobile
On small screens, the bracelet now carries only Menu and its opening control, leaving more room for the page. The full invitation remains inside. We also centered the threads connecting passages of the same story and made them easier to see. Blog and initiative editor access keeps the previous fix.
